In 1877 Lennards Mill, first permanently settled in the late 1850’s, with about 80 residents applied for and was awarded by the government a post office. It was named the Paradise post office. In 1877 William E Mack M.D., moved onto the ridge becoming the town doctor. He also planted 65 acres of olives. Dr Mack produced olive oil into the 1940’s. 1n 1903 the Diamond Match Company came to town and built a railroad depot to support transporting lumber from Stirling City through Paradise to Chico. By 1903 the secret was out and more people began settling in the rural community of Paradise. Containing nearly 200 photos this book published in 2006 is a photo journal of the town’s development. This book along with the book on Stirling City Magalia, both written by Robert Colby, offer a comprehensive look at the development of Stirling City, Magalia and Paradise and the role Diamond Match played.
