Ruby Swartzlow 1903 – 1981

​Born in Wisconsin, Mrs Swartzlow moved to Red Bluff with her husband Robert in the early 1940’s where Robert was employed as an Associate Naturalist with the Lassen Volcanic Park. In 1944 they moved to Chico, later moving to Paradise, CA. Ruby was a graduate of Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. She received her Master’s Degree in History from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. Her teaching career covered 56 years of teaching in high schools in Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri, Oregon and Nebraska before moving to California. In 1960, Ruby taught adult education classes in Northern California history at Paradise High School until her health failed. 
She was a member of the Paradise United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, Butte County Branch of the American Association of University Women, the National League of American Pen Women, the Paradise Fact and Folklore Society, Butte County Historical Society, and the Colusa County Historical Society.
