Materials related to the research of California’s Native Americans.
The California Indian history is uncomfortable to talk about because it resulted in the Indian population dropping in the remote land of California by nearly 90% over a period of 45 years. But if we want to learn from the mistakes made, we must dig deeper into why it happened. In some ways we still make the same mistakes today with our association with other population groups in the world. The reality is that understanding the history of how we associate with others is not black or white but rather many shades of grey. You have to look deeper to see them.
It takes a willingness to explore where these relationships went wrong and understand what we can do to not make the same mistakes. The files on this page are from source material used to write the attached brief history of the California Indian Reservation System and the Concow Indians in Butte County. The article is not meant to be the definitive work on the subject, it is only 30 pages so it only scratches the surface. It is hoped it helps the reader to better understand the materials on the website and perhaps even do their own research and write their own articles, adding to the understaning of what happened. There should be enough material on the site to give the next budding researcher a jump start and help them start answering their own questions of not just what happened but more importantly why. Start the journey, we look forward to you sharing your theories and discoveries!
